Dookie Chaos

The last few weeks have brought many more second firsts.  I know, quite the oxymoron, but never would we have imagined that Khadees would repeat his first time driving, first time dropping the kids off at school, first time running an errand, etc.  He is happy with his newfound freedom, and each of the firsts makes me smile.  I think it's a blessing that the kids don’t really understand how profoundly special these new firsts are, how they could have been robbed from it all.  That is never lost on me.

We have been humbled after his cardiac window procedure.  He did amazingly well after transplant, but the little stumble showed us that complications can happen and be completely unpredictable.  We are thankful that Khadees has continued to recover and is continuing to do well.

As he continues to progress in his healing post transplant and now cardiac window, we have finally reached the point where he no longer needs a caregiver.  Khadees, congratulations, you’re now able to stay home alone!  (Now don’t go throwing any crazy parties!)  He is continuing to build his stamina and tolerance to the stress of everyday life.  We are still waiting on the fun game of insurance versus cardiac rehab, so we are hoping he will be able to start soon.  During cardiac rehab, his heart will be monitored as he pushes himself and builds his endurance.

My mom is here for the final shift in helping with all the chaos at the Dookie Household.   We are beyond thankful for our friends and family who have helped us along this journey.  Our parents and my amazing Aunt Sharon have split shifts to help us, since Khadees had to have a caregiver at all times, I continued to work, and the kids continued with school and extracurricular activities.  We’ve had so many people help us with pick ups, drop offs, meals, chores, etc. and I don’t know where we would be without that.  We are beyond blessed and so thankful.  As of March 21 (after surviving the kids’ Spring Break!),  we will send off my mom with lots of hugs and kisses.  We will then start our new first, of continuing the chaos at the Dookie Household, with just Khadees and I.
