Back Home!

We are back home! Back to the craziness that is our lives, but very thankful to be home. I wish I could say that Khadees is feeling great and back to his usual self, but that’s not quite the case yet. He has still had lots of pain, as they had to re-open part of his original incision. He did amazingly well after transplant, home within 13 days and very little pain. This time around, after the pericardial window, he’s feeling it. He feels it when he gets up, lays down, walks around. I don’t want to say we are starting from square 1, because we definitely are not, but these are challenges that he wasn’t expecting.

He originally went to the hospital for signs of rejection and possible infection, which is how we discovered the growing pericardial effusion. He’s had ongoing GI upset, which can be from one of the anti-rejection meds, Cellcept. There is an alternative, but it’s expensive and insurance doesn’t like to cover it. So, during his hospital stay, lots of tests were done to see if there was any other cause for GI upset. This won Khadees an 80% expenses paid trip to the Colonoscopy and EGD suite. (After he was given Versed, he asked the doctor if they would be using the same tube for both procedures and if so, which went first because he didn’t want to wake up with a bad taste in his mouth 😂The doctor, without missing a beat, laughed and said it would be a game time decision.

All of the viral panels, blood cultures, and extra biopsies were all negative. The last few days in the hospital were better with some GI symptoms… no food, colonoscopy prep, and pain meds temporarily eliminate some issues… we have learned to look for the silver lining.

We are happy he’s back home. The kids always miss him when he’s not here, but this last week was very difficult on Allie. She’s becoming more aware of everything happening around her, and anytime I came home, she wanted to know where daddy was. She turns 3 this week and we are excited to celebrate her as a family today!

Thank you for the support and love throughout this entire village. There are so many days that seemed impossible to get through, and the prayers, love, and support have helped us through those moments. And, for those wondering, the doctor visited Khadees once he came out of sedation and told him they decided to play it safe and use two tubes! ðŸ˜‚
